My Experience with Turmeric as an Acne Cure

There are countless articles on the internet that describe the amazing benefits of using turmeric for your skin. Turmeric is supposed to be anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-aging, all of which are great when it comes to fighting acne. It is a really popular beauty ingredient used in a lot of DIY face packs in India. But for some reason, I have always shied away from using it. Maybe it is because of my childhood friend Aishwarya whose face was always stained yellow from excessive use of turmeric. I guess I didn't want to be called 'the girl with the yellow face'.

About a week ago, I switched from using a Biotique toner to an ACV toner. I also started using a tea tree oil face wash, which combined with the ACV toner, made my skin feel extremely dry. I usually use Lactocalamine as a night cream, which is not really a moisturizer, but it works for me. But that night, I felt that my skin needed a little more moisture. So, I decided to use Bio Oil to moisturize my dry skin. I thought, 'Hey, Bio Oil is non-comedogenic, so it won't do any bad stuff to my skin'. Oh, how wrong I was. The next morning, I woke up with a slightly red spot on my right cheek which soon grew to be a nice, plump pimple the size of a small pea. I was determined to somehow zap my pimple away, so I washed my face thrice a day with the tea tree oil face wash. I also applied my Biotique spot correcting face pack twice a day. But the pimple just won't go.

Two days back, my cousin suggested that I use a simple turmeric and water face pack. I did - I mixed about half a teaspoon of wild turmeric powder with enough water to make a paste and applied it to the affected area. My cousin advised me to keep it overnight, but I washed it off after only an hour because I thought the turmeric might be too strong for my sensitive skin. Even though I kept it on for only an hour, I could still see its benefits. The inflammation had gone down, and the pimple was no longer red and sensitive. I did the same thing last night and my pimple has reduced significantly in size.

Today is my third day using turmeric on my acne. I decided to switch it up a little this time and use honey instead of water.

I have tried a lot of DIY remedies that didn't work. After seeing the results so far, I am hopeful that this one will actually work. I will post an update on this soon.

Product Review: Globus Remedies Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid Face Wash

I usually go for face washes that are gentle on the skin like The Face Shop cleansers. So, when I came across the Globus Remedies Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid Face Wash on Nykaa, I was a bit apprehensive. To the uninitiated i.e. myself, the fact that this cleanser contains glycolic and salicylic acid may seem scary. But this has a rating of 4.5/5 on Nykaa, so I decided to give it a shot. Ingredients: The product label lists glycolic acid, salicylic acid, aloe vera extract, Vitamin E acetate & gel base as the ingredients. The percentage of acid in this cleanser is very less: 2% glycolic acid and 1% salicylic acid. I did some research (meaning that I Googled stuff for a bit) and found out that glycolic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid or AHA, can be neutralized with water if it is less than 10% in concentration. If it is greater than 10%, you will need to use a neutralizer after application of the acid. Salicylic acid, which is a beta hydroxy acid or BHA, is a bi...

DIY Shea Butter + Turmeric + Lemon Night Cream

I live in a pretty humid city, so I usually don't moisturize my face in the day (unless it feels super dry). I find that putting on cream-based products on my face while I'm out and about makes me sweat like crazy. So, the only time my face gets pampered is at night. But ever since my acne problem started a year ago, I've been having trouble finding a good night cream for my face. I have tried a couple of options but they almost always end up breaking me out. I used Nivea Soft Light Moisturiser for a while, but it caused me to break out. I used Bio Oil once (which was one of the worst skincare decisions I have made) and it made my skin erupt into a ginormous pimple. I used this Korean product called Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream, which was hailed by many blogs as an acne cure, but again it broke me out. I haven't seen any adverse effects while using Lactocalamine, but I feel like it doesn't so much moisturize my skin as mattify it. Also, I sweat a bit while us...
